Registered Psychotherapist
I feel honored to team up with clients like you in enhancing your mental well-being, easing your suffering, and taking steady steps toward the life you want.
Prior to working as a registered psychotherapist, I spent more than 18 years in the learning and development field, where I acted as a coach and facilitator as well as a career counsellor. During this period, I discovered that what mattered most to me was helping clients find real alternatives to the way they deal with their issues, thereby reducing their suffering and fostering greater well-being and meaningful change. This realization inspired me to change my career focus and to become a registered psychotherapist.
On my own journey as a person and as a therapist, I have witnessed a lot of suffering in individuals. I have also witnessed extraordinary changes in my clients and the possibility of being the persons they want to be. These observations, along with my own past mental health struggles, inform my approach, which I believe you will find authentic, engaging and rooted in warmth and compassion.
I have completed a Masters in Counselling (M.Ed.) from the University of Ottawa and a Graduate Degree in Adult Learning from the Université du Quebec en Outaouais, in addition to more than 800 hours of recent study in therapeutic issues and modalities. If you would like further information about my experience and training, you can see my CV here.
As an associate at Mintleaf Clinic, I work with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, self-worth issues, shame, depression, chronic stress, burnout, life transition, grief and loss, career challenges and relationship difficulties with peers and family members.
I am currently seeing clients virtually. I can work with clients in the Ottawa region, throughout Ontario, as well as in the Outaouais region of Quebec. I offer services in both English and French.
Je travaille actuellement de manière virtuelle avec les clients. Je peux travailler avec des clients de la région d'Ottawa, de l'ensemble de l'Ontario, ainsi que de la région de l'Outaouais au Québec. J'offre des services en français et en anglais.
My Therapy Approach
My therapeutic style is engaging and flexible, rooted in personal warmth and authenticity.
In the past three years, I have extensively studied current empirically validated therapeutic modalities, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I use these modalities, as well as mindfulness-based interventions, in my work with adult clients dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress and burnout, grief and loss, life transition, low mindfulness, self-worth issues, and assertiveness and relationship difficulties. My own healing journey with anxiety, trauma, critical self-thought, as well as resulting insights, also inform my therapeutic approach. (If you are interested, you can see my CV here). I am always pursuing new learning opportunities and exploring the latest research in psychotherapy and psychology.
Having studied with Jon Kabat-Zinn and his team at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, I am trained as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher. I am also a Mindful Self-Compassion Certified Teacher.
As a therapist, I favor a “rolling up our sleeves and working together” approach, applying a person-centered and attentive presence to you, your concerns and your goals. I also demonstrate great respect for your inner resources, diverse background and history, courage in “showing up,” and joy for the work you do to gain new perspectives, develop new skills, and take steady steps toward the life you want.
