Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
One of the most difficult decisions you can make is to start going to therapy. It takes courage, openness, and vulnerability to sit with your challenges in the pursuit of growth and recovery. You did the hard part of getting yourself here, and I would be honoured to help you meet your therapeutic goals.
It can feel uncomfortable to sit with distressing emotions and acknowledge painful events and changes in your life. I have witnessed this firsthand with clients. While the process of looking inward can feel challenging at times, it can also come with positive changes, whether that’s alleviating your pain, changing an unhelpful pattern, or seeking internal clarity. As Carl Jung so eloquently observed: “Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
I work with individuals and couples using a person-centered and compassionate approach. I currently work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, trauma, grief, stress, burnout, substance misuse, life transitions, and relationship challenges (with romantic partners, family members and friends).
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and graduated with a Master in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University. Prior to this work, my interest in mental health began during my thesis research in Nova Scotia on mental health policy, legislation, and strategies where I graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from Acadia University.
I value examining clients’ challenges through an intersectional lens, which includes recognizing how clients’ intersecting sociopolitical identities (e.g., gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, nationality, immigration status, class, age, religion, and spirituality) influence how they navigate and experience the world.
I am currently seeing clients virtually and offer in-person sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
My Therapy Approach
I believe in fostering a collaborative and safe therapeutic space so that you can openly explore your beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and goals. Together, we can find ways to meet your unique mental health needs.
My approach to therapy is informed by warmth, compassion, empathy, and a nonjudgmental stance. I believe in collaborating with clients to build a strong therapeutic relationship; this includes using a person-centered philosophy so that my clients’ thoughts and needs are at the core of our treatment plans.
When working with individuals and couples, I integrate elements from multiple psychotherapeutic modalities based on clients’ mental health challenges and needs. I believe everyone’s experience with mental health is unique and cannot be treated using one approach alone. The modalities I apply in individual therapy include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions and psychodynamic therapy. In couples therapy, I apply Gottman Method Couples Therapy (I am certified in Level 1 training) and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT).
I have experience working with adolescents and adults who have struggled with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, trauma, grief, stress, burnout, substance misuse, career transitions and relationship challenges (with romantic partners, family members, and friends).
